Decidí tomar esta fotografía para poner de relieve la brecha económica. La mayoría de la gente ha abandonado este tipo de construcciones en favor de materiales modernos, pero para muchas familias, el alto coste de la vida hace que esa transición sea imposible. Quería documentar la realidad de que, para algunos, la «tradición» es en realidad una cuestión de necesidad debido a la falta de recursos para construir otra cosa.
Cuando tomé esta foto, sentí una mezcla de tristeza y admiración. Es una representación visual de lo dura que es la vida. Sin embargo, la sonrisa del niño ofrece un poderoso contraste: muestra que, a pesar de vivir en condiciones tan humildes y empobrecidas, el espíritu humano y la inocencia de la infancia siguen siendo resilientes. Quería que el espectador viera la lucha, pero también la humanidad que hay.
I chose to take this photograph to highlight the economic divide. Most people have moved away from these types of structures in favor of modern materials, but for many families, the high cost of living makes that transition impossible. I wanted to document the reality that, for some, «tradition» is actually a matter of necessity due to a lack of resources to build anything else.
When I took this, I felt a mix of heavy heartedness and admiration. It is a visual representation of life is hard. However, the boy’s smile provides a powerful contrast it shows that despite living in such humble and impoverished conditions, the human spirit and the innocence of childhood remain resilient.
