Asunto: Este niño está en la playa preparando pescado. En pueblos como Unguja Ukuu, muchos niños se ven obligados a trabajar desde muy temprana edad; a menudo son contratados por pescadores para limpiar y procesar la captura, en lugar de estar en la escuela.

Motivo: Decidí tomar esta foto en concreto para reflejar la realidad del trabajo infantil a la que nos enfrentamos en Zanzíbar. A pesar de los importantes esfuerzos del Gobierno por proteger a los niños, muchos siguen abandonando sus estudios atraídos por la posibilidad de obtener ingresos inmediatos.

Quería capturar esta lucha entre la supervivencia económica y el derecho a la educación.

El sentimiento: Cuando tomé esta foto, sentí una profunda preocupación por el futuro de estos niños. Es triste ver manos destinadas a los libros realizando el duro trabajo del mar. Al utilizar este ángulo elevado, quería mostrar lo pequeño y vulnerable que es el niño en comparación con el vasto entorno del trabajo al
que se ve obligado.

Subject: This young boy is on the beach preparing fish. In villages like Unguja Ukuu, many children are drawn into early labor, often being hired by fishermen to clean and process the catch instead of being in school.

Why: I chose to take this specific shot to picture reality of child labor that we face in the Zanzibar. Despite significant government efforts to protect children, many are still leaving their studies for the lure of immediate income. I wanted to capture this struggle between economic survival and the right to an education.

The Feeling: When I took this, I felt a deep sense of concern for the future of these children. There is a sadness in seeing hands meant for books doing the heavy work of the sea. By using this high angle, I wanted to show how small and vulnerable the child is compared to the vast environment of the labor he is forced into.
